CUPE Local 4900 supports striking Local 2073

On June 16, 2025 CUPE Local 4900 executive and stewards supported members from the Canadian Hearing Society who have been on strike since April 28, 2025. The strike came after the agency only committed to two days of bargaining, called for a No Board before negotiations meaningfully began, and refused to extend the terms of the now expired collective agreement.

This small group of workers has an outsized impact, delivering critical programs for thousands of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Ontarians. CUPE 2073 members work as counselors, audiologists, deaf/blind intervenors, interpreters, and in other important roles.

Help the Support our OMERS Campaign

The Ford Conservatives have ordered an OMERS governance review and appointed one of their own, Robert Poirier, to lead it.

The review will look at the Sponsors Corporation (SC) in particular. This is the body in which CUPE and other unions are represented; the SC is how CUPE plan members have their say over what happens to the plan that manages their pension.
